The Nationals Skills Commission and federal government will work with the states and territories to develop a list of qualifications and skills in demand, determining the sectors in which the funding should be spent.Australians will be able to start short courses or qualifications for free or at low cost from September and October, but the Prime Minister said businesses and a growing economy would create jobs, not the training program.
“They are created by businesses opening their doors, employing people and doing better than they are today,” Mr Morrison said.
“(The JobTrainer program) is not just for young people. It’s worth pointing out that half of VET students are aged above 30. Half of those training in vocational education and training are aged over 30, and over 15 per cent are aged over 50.”
Another $1.5bn will be invested into a wage subsidy scheme for apprentices and trainees, which is being extended from small businesses to medium businesses with fewer than 200 employees.................................................................................
