In the US it's a different story....The car industry is a significant part of American culture...One of the most famous buildings in NY is the Chrysler building....The Chrysler foundation is a symbol of American power...
At the time of it's construction it became the world's tallest building....it's a national icon no less important than the Eiffel Tower...
Entire cities have evolved around the car industry - Detroit for example and it's music etc etc...
