Honore de Balzac
Probably the most prolific author of all time. Writing mainly in the period 1820-50, apart from a lot of short stories he wrote an epic sequence of books, which came under the general title of Comedie Humaine. I once set out to read them all but so many of them were impossible to obtain, in English translation anyway.
But where do the movies come in? Well, apart from a movie with Depardieu about Balzac's life I assume, there is one TV series in English from the novel Cousine Bette, which was made 50 years ago and which is not bad for its time.
There are a number of French movies featuring top French stars based on his books, but where to obtain them and do they have subtitles???
A goldmine of material just waiting to be exploited. Where are the speculative miners?
