    Hi Marmaduke,
I am a father of a son who was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 2. When we were in our family doctors office, after the diagnosis my wife & i asked her so what do we do now and how do we manage his asthma. Our son was too young for Peak Flow and unable to have an Asthma plan, so the advice we were given was to try and "listen" for his Wheezing and if in doubt just give him Ventolin....my wife and I were shocked! The life of our 2 year old son was being put in our hands with nothing to assist us but luck and our hearing. we had no experience in asthma or being able to decide what was wheezing and what was not. He wasn't able to just tell us how he was feeling or what was going on physiologically. No system was available to us to help us monitor and manage our sons condition as he was too young for Peakflow and we weren't just going to ply him with medication that is based on steroids! So we would both sit up at night watching him breath as he slept fearful that he may not wake up in the morning. Do you know that Asthma kills? Do you understand the extreme fear a parent feels when their child's life is at risk everyday and night? My wife & I do and i knew we had to do something more for our sons health, wellbeing and future. I searched far and wide for something/anything that could assist us with managing and monitoring asthma and found nothing new outside Peakflow and Spirometer of which my son could use neither of them. Which lead me to Respiri. The Wheezo platform provided a potential solution for being able to actively monitor and manage our sons asthma and measure his breathing objectively before an asthma event ever took hold and he had an attack and ended up in hospital. I love my son more than leaving his asthma up to guesswork and luck and waiting until it gets so bad that the only solution for him is the ER! I have many friends who have children with asthma how are desperate to find a better solution for their children than is currently not available though Peakflow and to be able to give them peace of mind and reduce their fear for their children's health, wellbeing and survival. The Wheezo for our family and my son is a absolute necessary purchase as anything less than the most advanced solution available to manage his condition is unacceptable and scrimping on his health. That is how we love and care for our son....we give him the best solution available to make sure he has the best care possible! And there are many more families out there in both Australia and around the world like us, wanting to give the very best care to our children. It is our responsibility as parents and carers. I am currently using/trialling the Wheezo system and have also trialled the Peakflow for my son as he is now older and able to use it....Peakflow may be cheap, however it is a far inferior tool (can't call it a system) for being able to objectively and actively manage our sons asthma and track the impact of different variables that can trigger his asthma. Peakflow actually puts his life at risk again as the information is inaccurate compared to the Wheezo which provides an objective measure of his Wheezing and much is harder and more cumbersome to use which reduces its effectiveness as compared to Wheezo which has minimal human input and captures the data immediately.
I am intimately aware of asthma and its serious health and lifestyle impacts, especially on children. Wheezo will be a very valuable tool/system for parents/carers of asthmatic children, moderate and severe asthmatics. i also believe that if you are an adult asthmatic and not intending to use the Wheezo system when it is launched in a few months in Australia, then you are complacent and leaving your health, wellbeing and mortality to pure luck (not good management)....I want my son to have the very best care available to him for the rest of his life and that is Wheezo.
I have been reading your posts with both interest and real concern. You are correct in saying an asthmatic needs a diagnosis, management plan and medication. How do you know when to take your medication? It is when the level of Wheeze gets to a level when it becomes difficult to breathe. The very core of an Asthma plan is measuring Wheeze! How do you measure Wheeze? That is exactly what Wheezo does, objectively and accurately. The very essence of managing the disease is to manage the amount of Wheeze an asthmatic has in their breathe cycle and taking medication to reduce this wheeze before an exacerbation occurs and an attack....that means understanding Wheeze (both inaudible and audible) and measuring the level of it accurately and in real-time is essential in managing an asthmatics condition and knowing when to take their medication and how much....Peaflow and Spirometry do not dot this, Wheezo does.
You will be surprised at what families will do to ensure the health, wellbeing and safety of their children.
