It's not a classic 'monopoly' any longer as its largest earnings are from international travellers.
Some in business - note use of 'some' - will replace costly international flights/accommodation/meals/surface travel with video meetings.
If Badgerys Creek airport opens in 2026, that will be (admittedly small initially) competition.
Federal ALP says if elected (which given politics will happen one day) it'll construct truly fast trains to Melbourne and Brisbane. These are hugely successful overseas. That won't be an immediate threat to SYD, more of a longer term one.
Pre-COVID I used to think SYD would be an A1 gold-plated investment but the virus has put paid to that.
