I respectfully disagree Hemmo. If not for the USA we would be stuffed. China could overrun Australia in a matter of weeks if not for our allies.

I'd much rather see the Triton/Chinese deal fall over than be eating bowls of rice and singing from the CCP songbook.

As you can tell I'm not enamoured having the Chinese as our investment partners. It's not the people per se, it's the government regime. Who here would go into partnership with someone who's philosophy and politics differed so greatly from their own. For this reason I am more than a tad uncomfortable having the Chinese on board.

Longterm we would probably be better off without them in view of the current climate but all people see are $ signs. I know that's the name of the game but at what price? Food for thought...

Australia needs to open up the country with irrigation, use our resources to their full potential by manufacturing steel instead of exporting ore. The irrigation alone would provide jobs, wealth, and support a larger population resulting in greater autonomy. We need leaders not career politicians. While we are at it stop bickering over relatively minor isssues and come together as one nation united for the greater good.
