German protesters march on Brandenburg Gate – Day of Freedom!
More than 20,000 people protesting against coronavirus measures marched on Brandenburg Gate and up to Tiergarten Park in Berlin overnight.
German police cut short the planned route of the “Day of Freedom” march after the crowd, which was not following social distancing guidelines, swelled from an original expectation of 1000 demonstrators.
The protesters said coronavirus measures, which included wearing face masks on transport and in shops, violated their freedoms. They said the German measures had not been adjusted for the declining impact of the virus throughout the country.
Protesters held signs saying “Corona, false alarm”, “We are being forced to wear a muzzle”, “Natural defence instead of vaccination” and “End the corona panic – bring back democracy”.
The crowd chanted: “Wir sindhier, wir sind laut, weil man uns die Freiheit klaut (we are here, we are loud, because they’re stealing our freedom).”
