The reason it has been missed by the commentariat is almost certainly because it is actually not a big deal at all.

Raw materials - of which plasma is one of several components - runs at around $1.0 bn in total:



So, even if, generously assuming that:

1. plasma represents all of that $1.0bn (which it clearly doesn't), and
2. the plasma held by CSL could be reduced by 50% (which would be no mean feat),

.... it would liberate $500m in capital.

That's equivalent to just 0.4% of the value of the company.

It's barely more than a rounding error.
