    @Wanganella; Japan's response modelled America's 'gunboat diplomacy' wherein Commodore Perry rammed US interests right down Japanese throats in 1893 and forced Japan to rollover and kowtow to US corporate interests.

    After seeing what the West did to China [Opiumtrade, missionaries, ...] the Japanese responded by militarising the country, coinciding with what it did to the Chinese people during the 1930s and throughout WW2 and to the USA at Pearl Harbour in 1942.
