The third aspect of the "trifecta" could be a problem with margin loans. Have there been any calls on loans in last few days?
However the problem of short selling is disgusting; you set your traps, borrow the shares, dump on the market, get the buys (dont need to pick the bottom) and give the shares back.
Next monday will be an interesting day and we may see some retribution.
