Hi Dave, My friends (on the water) live on board their boats between the Gold Coast and Brisbane but most of them hang out around the southern bay (Moreton) islands. It's a sheltered area with hundreds of good anchorages yet close enough to go shopping on the Gold Coast. One shopping centre is accessible by water and it's easy to tie up the boat or the dinghy to their pontoon/verandah/landing dock (or whatever it's called).
If you don't mind fish and crabs supplying protein needs then living expenses come right down. On top of that you can throw away the lawn mower, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, rake etc., and forget everything you have reluctantly read about gardening. Perfect.
With a suitable boat (not necessarily an expensive boat) you can forget about wild weather. There's plenty of good places to shelter even for small boats.
One friend, who does not want to let go, even day trades via Wireless Broadband but really, who could be bothered?
Most of them have become much fitter - just moving around and handling a boat gives some exercise and there's nothing better than walking a beach at dawn and dusk.
