Looking as her father did in this photo, Kamala was treated by others as a black/coloured/Tamil kid, was "bused" to school on that basis. She adopted an identity on that basis rather than her Irish identity.
Look at her father's picture again. Tell me what reception he would receive if he sat on the "wrong" seat at an Alabama bus stop in 1961?
The reality is that everyone now alive is of mixed race and some of us get to choose cultural identify. Some get to cherry pick aspects of different cultures into a personal identity. Fine. Next story ....
