I have to say, that's a pretty horrible thing to say.
It has all the hallmarks of smug elitism from someone who appears inordinately less affected than the average person by what's happening out there, let alone one not being one of the unfortunate tens of thousands of Australians who are small business owners on the cusp of losing their life savings, and the hundreds of thousands of Australians who have lost their livelihoods, or are about to lose them.
A study of more than 5,400 adults by the US-based Centres for Disease Control [*] found that symptoms of anxiety increased threefold on the same period last year and depressive disorders have increased fourfold.
Specifically:
- 31% reported depression and anxiety
- 13% initiating or increasing the use of substances to cope with stress
- 11% reporting they had seriously considered suicide in the preceding month
Most notably, the toll was particularly striking in the 18-24 age category, with"
- 63 % reported depression and anxiety
- 25% initiating or increasing the use of substances to cope with stress
- 25% reporting they had seriously considered suicide in the preceding month
"Mental anguish/mental health issues being merely over-cooked by vocal agenda driven groups"?
Under the circumstances, that is a shameful view to hold, let alone to actively propagate into the public domain.
Not just that, but that
You need to read and consult more widely to overcome some of the crass misapprehensions under which you are clearly labouring, instead of seeking out only the confirmatory information that justifies your indifferent attitude to the very real despair, anxiety and depression which has been caused to exist.
Just because you are somehow shielded from it, doesn't mean it isn't both very real and widespread.
