yeah, fat prophets has a graph in their annual 09 report which shows china energy prediction out to 2030. it actually is about how much extra oil they will want, but it shows that the amount of coal they will need dwarfs the amount of oil (measured in BOE.. barrels of oil equivilant I guess)

makes sense, there are a shitload of chinese and they all want electric lights, fridges and factories to make them.

then there is india which has an even greater population. they are a fair way behind china - I think the majority of their population still gets by using cow dung as fuel but they are surely part of the ongoing commodities boom that this current downturn is merely a blip on the curve of.
