The only RCT of convalescent plasma (follow this new link to the actual paper which lists the paper!) shows the following

52 pts received plasma and 51 patients received placebo
the trial stopped early due poor accrual (not enough patients signing up) so was not fully powered for the effect size (difference) they expected to see

and indeed they actually didn’t see any difference at all in outcome:
of the patients improving, it was equal numbers in each group, around 10%
so no difference

i think the language trump and the fda are using is very selective, about safety etc
and they will be collecting more efficacy as they go on their EAP as MSB have been doing
unless they have unpublished RCT data....?????

It is very expensive and logistically difficult to want to open up to huge numbers of people without hard evidence. The FDA will want RCT evidence at some point.

it is the only thing on the horizon other than mesoblast, but not as complicated as MSB, as all the other treatments just don’t have the spread of effects (knifes, gun fights, you get my gist), but would not be expected to work in such sick patients as MSB ie to truly reverse cytokine storm. It doesn’t have the power of the 1,2,3 punch so eloquently described in the WSJ article.

I am not against trying something that might work
but I am against the FDA being pushed around for political purposes prior to the RNC, if that is what this is.... no idea but looks mighty like it to me
