No open cut mine in the world has been asked to do what Shree is being asked of by these environmentalists. The mayor of the region in 2013 was strongly for this and outlines why, at current iron ore prices those arguments have even more weight and validity.

The acid forming waste is planned to be moved into the first open cut mine once that has been cleared, likely this will be all they need to amend and change in the EPA plan, as they state, they will submit everything the same however the application will specify a more environmentally friendly disposal method. End result is very much the same it seems.

I imagine once they’ve sorted out how to make disposal of the waste more environmentally friendly or convince the EPA that no other mine in the world has had to do it differently this project will absolutely get the green light.
