Hi PD ... I posted on this issue in Aug08 and specifically on what appears to be WOW profit gouging ... mega prices equals mega profits.
"WOW profits up a staggering 26% on +10% revenue ... profits so bloated that a $1billion buy-back is being contemplated ... seems a tad 'unAustralian' to be gouging profits at a time when most are struggling just to put food on the table."
Interestingly, not all replies agreed with me ...
Retail Trade Association Scott Driscoll has pointed out "We've actually experienced higher food price increases than the entire Western world," ... and "We're the only country in the OECD where food inflation is actually outstripping general inflation."
You can fight back ... firstly, us guys need to do the grocery shopping ... learn the prices and the discount cycles (this is war !!!) ... avoid processed/ready made foods as much as possible (lethal doses of salt anyway..) which also means us guys need to get kitch savvy (will improve your family life also) and most of all use this downturn to plan low calorie meals that will trim that waistline and bank the diff.
