I would have much preferred that the government applied stimulus to the economy with increased infrastructure spending (not waste), and decent improvements to the health system and Hospital services across the country. God knows we will need this with the ever increasing numbers dropping private health cover as they tighten their belts.

Sure, give some modest tax cuts if you like, and a bit more for the pensioners, but certainly not in one off cash windfalls that either went on imported consumables, pokies, or worse, straight up the arm. (and I know for a fact this did happen)

We need our money spent on stuff for the general good of the country. This in itself, creates employment and a general demand for products and services.

But we do have a labor government now, don't we?
