The amount of people I know that sold out of property in the nineties because of the debt cycle (asian financial crisis at the time) and look back now in complete distress as it only took 5 years for the property values to double from the value they had to sell out because of excessive debt compared to the property value.
You will probably find the same thing happened in the 60's, 70's and 80's.
