WPL did well to stay out of it originally, though their logic wasn't quite right (they claimed they weren't getting involved because it was dry gas, which didn't turn out to be the key problem).
It should have been a very successful, profitable industry but after the mismanagement in the early days I think only APLNG is likely to get their money back. That doesn't mean there aren't opportunities there at the right price (ie if the owners have already taken the writedowns it can be profitable on a go-forward basis) but I would really expect WPL to give it a very wide berth and focus on their core competency which is offshore. The CSG industry has had to develop special skillsets not just around low-cost technical extraction of the gas but managing the PR, political and legal situation. Safe to say that WPL wouldn't be equipped to manage that.
