One difference is that in Australia the main religion is Christianity, Catholicism or Anglican. I.e. believe in Jesus.
When a preacher says people need Jesus they usually mean people who are lost, have lost faith, or non-believers should believe in Jesus. I don't think it means converting Muslims to Christianity.

Saying Australians need us would more likely mean to convert people from Christianity to Islam as most Australians are religious according to above faiths.
