You can think of GOLD.asx being denominated in 1/10th ounces of gold if you like.
If you are worried about paper money and paper gold: don't even consider buying GOLD.asx, just go to your friendly bullion dealer and lug home whatever amount of physical you think that you can safely store. And then either lug it back at a later date to turn into worthless money or barter it with a lovely farmer who wants a bit in exchange for his wheat.
I do remember one of the last things that Heremes wrote - bless his sole. He had all those gold coins that were worth a lot of money. But in all seriousness he opined: what was he to do with them?
