I don't think Hamas nor the Israeli govt wants peace. I think the ordinary citizens of Gaza - that is, those who have not yet been driven to extremism (through frustration at their plight and inability to have any semblance of normalcy in their lives) are desperate for peace. I don't see how the latest military action helps anyone in the long term. It breeds more radicals.
Only when people can live productive lives and aspire to better themselves and their families - that is, have some hope - can we start to see an end to it. What hope do they have at the moment? so it suits the extremists on both sides to keep them marginalised and desperate....that way they can both claim false justification for their actions.
