Me gets ya re the connection to time and place but to me a story can be that connection, did not mention that before. So the physical is the buildings, the people (people too can be the past) and then creates a link to what was and what well be.

it seems to be trait that is growing in conviction and power.
Me does not believe it is a sense of minding ones own business but more of a " all about me syndrome" and a sense of aimlessness.
The example you gave of going to work but not doing it on the way home kinda gives me that further concept.
I do get ya with the boat, try and be there but try and not be there. An important aspect of being aware
