that's the same advice from Buffett & Monger - they keep harping on about index funds. they claim they don't use index funds only because they want have some control in the companies they invest in otherwise they would be in index funds as well. when buffet dies the remainder of his estate (after donating to charity) will be IVV. the logic of index funds and bonds is covered by Jack Bogle. I think the Au index funds are too overweight in banks personally. have a look at the 10 year return of IVV - it seems fine. if you only hold CSL RMD TNE COH etc you will think index funds are a waste of time but most aren't that lucky
