Paul wasn't fake he was an obsessive evangelist with a highly educated background in beliefs of the time with a strong ego.
In all stages of his life he was convinced of his "rightness".
Whether it was persecuting Christians or defending them to the death.
Who else in the NT had such a personal "Road to Damascus" to make up for not having met Jesus or being an actual Disciple ?
He saw pretty early that the Jews would not accept Jesus as their Messiah and the direction should be towards the gentiles.
All the rest and letters etc is to do with that.
Coloured as one would expect by Paul's personal "hangups" eg his attitude to woman having spiritual authority.
Paul is not an accurate version of what Jesus taught. Especially since he never met him.
