@NoBoDe - I have actually made pretzels - and do you realise that they are made from a simple bread dough, shaped and allowed to rise,
then heat oven - but have pot of boiling water in which 1 tblspn-full of Bi-carbonate of Soda (quite a bit) is bubbling away. Dip pretzel into this for 2 seconds and immediately put on baking tray - work quickly - when tray is full - sprinkle very coarse salt over - and put in hot oven - they only take 10 minutes or so - from memory.
ALDI sell them - frozen - during the European ball season, which goes from mid-December to end of February (Mardi Gras) - salt supplied and you heat them yourself.
