Um we generally dont run cameras down our wells.....the well is full of thick opaque mud so getting pictures with a camera is a bit difficult.

What we sometimes run as part of the wireline logging program are imaging tools. They come in different flavours:

1. resistivity imaging tool (eg Schlumbergers FMI tool). This has a series of pads with resistivity buttons on the surface of same. The pads run against the boreholew wall and record a high resolution resistivity image of same. Good for picking up bedding, fractures and other features.

2. Sonic Scanner (eg Schlumbergers MAST tool). This tool is records a sonic image of the rock sourrounding the borehole wall. Is useful for porosity measuremtns and also rock mechanics studies.

3. Ultrasonic Scanner (eg Schlumbergers USIT tool). This tool has a rotating ultrasound scanner on the bottom of it which provides an ultrasound image of the borehole wall.

NOte that the above tools are generally very expensive to run both in terms of rig time (they run slow) and post well processing required. Youd only run them after justifying the cost and benefits.
