Excellent comparison. TB is the right type of infectious disease against Covid19 to analyse pros n cons. Yes, I have seen the youtube video you share, snippets of it have appeared here n there in articles I have read.

Just to be clear - I don't think we are all going to die from Covid19 nor that everyone dies from it. Almost 70%+ o do recover successfully on avg, remainder fall in a range of long term recovery to death %.

Looking at your points, 100% I agree with you..next to Covid19, TB should be the number one focus because it does affect many more people globally + annually + its infectious. There are differences though...and that's the detail that we need to compare...

    - TB is caused by bacteria VS coranavirus' are virus' of course. Humans generally have gotten much better at dealing with bacteria...but virus' still are very complex for us. We have successfully been able to get a 100% successful vaccine + get close to eradicating a SINGLE virus in all of human history (polio). Bacteria - we have cures for thousands of different bacterial issues.

We have flu vaccines but as you correctly pointed out for Covid19, coranavirus' keeps mutating, so we never catch up to 100% flu prevention/eradication....and I suspect it will be the same for Covid19 too.

    - TB, due to it being an 'old' disease (been here thousands of years its estimated), we know a lot more about it + we have a range of antibiotic/drug treatments for it + we also have the BCG vaccine for it....best given at infant age but also works sometimes for older ages. We can successfully cure TB, provided its caught early enough and if the person doesn't have huge underlying conditions (HIV, years of smoking etc).

    - TB doesn't have widespread outbreaks (anymore) across multiple geos/regions etc...because we are able to diagnose it quickly + give treatments fast....which reduces the infection risk + spread. That's one of the key reasons why we don't have border closures/lockdowns for TB..isolation+ treatment is enough for infected....

    - Yes, 100% TB exists in large numbers in India, Indonesia, Africa etc...and certainly also occurs in almost all countries. A key difference though lies in its 'R' value (you would have heard of the reproductive measure). TB in low incidence countries (like Austrlia) is <1 VS Covid19 can keep building to R2.2 and beyond if left un-checked.

Indonesia doesn't need to do wholescale lockdowns either for TB. Certainly they might have to go harder in certain commuities/areas where TB rates are higher to bring it under control.

What TB countries need to do is raise the education + testing + sanitation levels + air quality + reduce smoking etc + speed of treatment...all of which contribute to higher levels of TBs + infection circles there. If they can do this, they will get TB down to minimum to none....same as in Australia. And I understand these suggestions (by WHO actually) are simple to state but much harder to deploy in a complex society like Indonesia..

TB is not crossing borders willy nilly...so any foreign govt can't force Indonesia/India into lockdown to solve TB or close its borders off. These countries have to choose to do so on their own - because its their decision...as for the rest of 'us', its an identifiable, treatable disease and we can stop mass infecting mass pop silently..

TB is airborne though coughing....but Covid19 can be airborne + surface touch as well...making Covid19 more labour intensive to sanitise everywhere a person went. TB, one doesn't need to sanitise the whole train carriage if an infected person walked through (they probably still would if several people in the carriage caught it, out of precaution. The folks can get tested fair quickly and start treatment immediately).

With Covid19, almost all of the time...all we can do is keep the person alive..they have to beat Covid19 on their own. Some treatments like remdesvir etc are promising of course but still hit n miss. TB has a range of treatments available.

Anything that can build numbers (without any effective treatment) is classed as a pandemic..requiring stronger society and govt solutions...because there is no medical way to stop it building otherwise.

Everything you have suggested as moving forward are the measures being adopted in most sensible societies. VIC state's plan is going to be similar too...but citizens need to remember these are stop-gaps...not a 100% preventative. Once people start getting careless again & allow things to build...

I don't think that lockdowns/isolation are the best measure and they are definitely hugely damaging....but for now, that is literally the only way to break Covid19 infection circle once it gets beyond a certain number.

We simply don't have enough science, no range of close-to-100% treatments and no viable vaccine/s...all of which leads to ever increasing infection circles, thus overwhelming medical services, treatments + the graveyards. That's the end game why lockdowns get used. Everything else is a stop gap till that point is reached....
