Hey Boony, it's hard to say, and maybe someone out there knows the answer and can enlighten us...
So the article mentions that Marqeta will issue a virtual card (on mobile) for Sezzle, allowing shoppers to purchase online (at all retailers in the Sezzle network) and in-store (at Sezzle retailers that have Google Pay or Apple Pay functionality).
I would assume in this 'payments flow', Marqeta would issue the card, provide their version of 'ControlPay' (facilitating real-time approval of funds) after the card is used for payment, and then also process the transaction.
So what's left for EML? The only information I can glean from EML about Sezzle is that they are launching with them in Q1 FY21, and that it'll be to provide a 'digital payments solution supporting in-store POS and online purchases in North America'. This doesn't say much at all haha.
It's hard to say what EML will launch with Sezzle early next year. I don't think they will take over what Marqeta is doing, or even take over part of that 'payments flow' process I mentioned. They would surely have to be providing support for a different Sezzle product to be released. Something to ask them at the AGM?
