Recell is not used on the east coast of Australia. Reasons for this have been suggested over the years.
- Discovered over the west by a woman. Male east coast doctors don't like to be told how to do things.
- Not had sufficient trials to prove its effectiveness (BARDA helped with this and allowed approval in USA).
- Disgust that an unproven technique was used on patients of the Bali bombing. Was very controversial at the time.
- NICE guidelines in UK said that the evidence of effectiveness was not there therefore could not justify recommending its use. I understand that this is being reviewed since BARDA trials.

With all the resistance that Avita was receiving in Britain, Australia, and EU, they decided to focus the little money they had left on getting approval in the USA and setting up a sales force there.
Perry came on board at a time when the company was floundering and was certainly instrumental during FDA submission and approval. He did not come on board at the end of this process as some are suggesting. I understand that his pay was negotiated based on the share price, which I think at the time was about 4c. If you think it is too high, perhaps that is the result of his hard work. Now you want to crucify him for this?

People keep complaining about the cost of the sales force. This is not just a product that requires a quick talking person with a sleazy smile. Doctors need to be trained how to use it. Staff need to be trained how to dress it after application and how to care for the patient. This 'sales force' are highly qualified nurses who are hands on in a hospital teaching staff how to get the best use out of this product (something they learnt when trying to get it accepted in the past). It is expensive, but it is working.

Covid is a setback if this 'sales force' cannot gain access to new doctors and nursing staff and will slow expansion for the time being. I will be patient and see this through.
