It ceases to amaze me what some people think and write. These people didn't have a chance.Tell me how you stop a fire ball coming at you at 80km a hr.flames 8 storeys high, horrendous heat. Some would have died long before the flames got to them.No matter what prevention plans you have in place you can't stop this sort of thing.Any pumps you have still wont let you close enough to use them.
Stories coming out how they were watching the fires several miles away, within 60 seconds it was on them.
As for living in these areas, tell that to that unfortunate farmer on TV. who has battled for 25 years to get ahead and has lost every thing,Aurelius do you expect them to live in Collins St.and run the farm from there.
Like the statement from the young fellow in the Mel.Sun yesterday "Will keep throwing my butts out the window till they put ashtrays in cars,do you expect me to throw them in the back seat"
Years ago I helped clean up after the Adelaide Hills fires.Bluestone dairies exploded (not much to burn in a dairy)Wood stoves in burnt out houses just a molten puddle where the floor was.(That's how bad the heat was)
Black Cockatoo's couldn't fly high enough to get away from the heat, were overcome and when they fell they turned to ash before they hit the ground.
Voltaire you have lost me with your lack of feelings.
    Clair
