I trade the DAX futures a fair bit so can fill you in on the opening/closing details.

Dax futs open an hour before European cash open, so given current daylight savings, futs open 6pm Syd time, cash opens 7pm. Even though cash closes around 3.30am Syd time (no totally certain of close time), Dax futs continue to trade until US cash close at 8am Syd time (and with same 2pt spread on CMC).

Dax is an incredible index and is tremendously volatile (only 30 components). You can get some great quick love on positions (as opposed to the boring old SPI), but if you're in the wrong possie and delay getting out, it can whip you good.
