    To correct an incorrect view about "fire" and native seeds. Studies by the WA Agriculture department have found that its not the fire (as such) that causes the seed pods to open - IE not the heat. Its the "smoke".

    In WA now they use "fake smoke compounds" to make various native seeds germinate.

    That's not to say that the nutrients increase in the soils after a bush fire doesn't help, however, it is the smoke's chemical compounds that cause germination - not the heat of the fire itself.
