Post Sarbanes Oxley (SOX)accounting firms generally do not provide audit, tax and consultancy services to the same client. If they provide audit they do not provide tax advice and other consultancy, or if they provide consultancy and tax advice they do not provide audit, etc. This is due to the need to be seen as independant, particulalry in relation to the audit function.
Not saying BBP or PwC have done anything improper here. But perception is reality and it would have been better to get the salary packaging advice from a firm that is independant of the audit function.
As the Spectator article suggests, BBP have not learned much in relation to governance.
