Judaism, Islam, Christianity; all three monotheistic religions have their share of barking mad lunatics wearing some combination of frocks, gowns, beards and funny hats. All too often they are allowed to drown out the voices of compassion and reason.
We should recognise that extremists represent only a very small proportion among millions. We need to ensure that these people are made accountable for the poison in their words but we must take care not to alienate the majority, for whom enlightenment is a road paved with compassion and kindness.
