My theory is that with the increase in bad debts, they recognise less revenue per transaction (factoring in that bad debts are likely to continue).
Remember the revenue which they recognise is normally on the gross carrying amount.
If there is obvious impairment, revenue is recognised on the net carrying amount. IE. Revenue recognised on the 'after expected loss' number rather than the before.
