Hey Hash, I've been reading a little bit about Optane and it seems to me more like the logical successor to Flash/SSD than what 4DS is chasing. A lot of reviews indicating that it doesn't boost the performance of a system noticeably unless you have conventional spinning hard drives (if you have a preference for very large, high reliability HDDs rather than using SSD), although it does aid in fast boot times by keeping an active system image saved as a cache. Its speed is about 50% faster than current SSD from what I could read, not near the speeds that DRAM can achieve.
It looks like Intel are trying to bring it in the same way SSD was, as a hybrid with mature storage/HDD technologies, eventually superseding that tech as the cost of production comes down.I don't see it as a competitor to what 4DS is trying to achieve.
