Most super funds also invest in shares. My super fund which is managed by an investment firm and then also supervised by Australian Executor Trustees has lost 50% in value. The money, which came from my husband's and my superannuation were mostly investments in blue-chip shares, i.e. finance and property. Most self-funded retirees would be in a similar position; not all of them manage their own funds.

Let's face it, we have all become poorer through the criminal speculation on Wall Street. The whole world is once again hostage to the greed of a few.

When I first entrusted my funds to a Financial Manager in 2001 I told myself that short of a super crisis, like global war, invasion from outer space (LOL) or possibly an instoppable pandemic, nothing would jeopardize my financial safety.

Wrong!

- Yet, the sun still shines, people get married, divorced and die, babies are being born, we manage to eat every day, and, collectively, we'll get through this crisis. In fact we could be in on the birth of an entirely new world with a new order of things, different means of getting energy etc. etc. It is a most exciting time - so far!

One thing I have learnt from this crisis, one needs to have nimble feet in the stock market, and a good warning system.

Meanwhile, let's hope that OZL doesn't sell itself too cheap.
