You are correct, however the statement "Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results." primarily pertains to investment products and not equities. The reason that this statement was included in PDS documents was so that top-performing products would not be expected to always be top performers. You rarely if ever hear this statement attributed to the share price performance of listed companies.
The other issue is that the past performance of AMP has been appalling. While it's future performance may not be as bad it is highly unlikely to be very good either.
