    multiple tangents?

This SIMPLE problem is incredibly complex, an I don't mean from any one viewpoint.

Everybody wants jobs, right? So we must have development and we do so by expanding out into new areas - we meet the bush. No one thought to plan for bush fire when that happended did they. No one thought ot plan for biodiversty conservation either!!!!!

Now we have the conflict between the two. ONe side (the development lobby) has money and an self serving agenda. The other has nothing but science and an appreciation of intergenerational equity.

Who wins? Easy answer the guy with the money and he walks away to relax in his trendy cafe while the mess left behind is fought out between the new landowners and the greenies.

Profits come first the environment comes second. May I suggest to you that the devistating effect of the fires in Victoria has as much to do with short sighted urban planning and development expansion as it does with the need to burn the bush.
