I haven't been to ABC Learning or Centro (not so much Centro now) forums, but I guess the same sentiment is there somewhere. Should the government bail them out? With ABC there are probably more actual jobs at stake..
What if GM decides to close down Holden because of their problems, how much of the Future fund should we put into save that? It wouldn't be good (I live in Adelaide), but the fact is the current Commodore is part of the GM Zeta platform that could be produced anywhere, such as Korea. So how much money would you be willing to pay per car as a taxpayer that a lot fewer people are buying?
As someone pointed out, the Future fund is to fund future government entitlements. If the government has the choice between something relatively secure and something more speculative (I'm thinking OZ's Zinc component) what do you think they are going to choose? More important, what do you think they should choose?
