If your Eligible then you get the whole lot back. its just like a total rebate. If you didn't pay enough tax and owed tax then it would be used withheld due to calculating your tax and you owe. I don't get a pension and trade in my wife's name and hold in mine for 50% Capital Gains Deductions. I therefor didn't sell much last year and was just under the threshold to pay tax but I received my full tax offset of $2165 for the said credits received. My Notice Off Assessment Says in four lines

Tax on taxable income 0.00
Assessed tax payable 0.00
Less tax offset refunds $2165.00 {this was the JMEI credits amount last year}

Outcome of this notice $2165.00 CR

Which was my tax return and fully enjoyed. Hope its Helpful Folks
