Not at all , i just like to correct ignorant statements in regard to just how difficult it is to compete in existing markets against proven carriers who already have the required infrastructure in place . Unless you have worked in an airline and have an understanding of what is required it is hard to imagine the massive costs involved in running one . Rex had a good and profitable little business that gave shareholders a return and should have been happy to stick with a tried and true formula . The area they are venturing into is fraught with expensive danger ..... many others have tried and failed so what makes anyone think Rex will be different ? Qantas and Virgin pretty much left Rex to operate virtually unhindered , BUT now trying to move into their spaces they will aggressively go after Rex which is not good news for you holders. It is never just a case of buy an aircraft and fly it , as i have said before the cost of spare parts alone is huge. For instance , one ( thats 1 ) APU is on average about AU$350,000 and ok you don't need to have 6 of them laying around but you do need 1 at least as a spare and that is just 1 component of an aircraft that have many 1000s of parts. The ONLY advantage Rex has over others who have previously tried to compete is that they have airport slots already assigned and some very small infrastructure in place .
I worked on Tarmac at Mel airport for 40 years and i can't even tell you where the Rex store is ( where they keep their spares ) nor their engineering office , that is how insignificant their operation is .
Hence why i refer to Rex as T-rex ... cos they will go the same way as their dinosaur namesake .
