Research & Development Manager

PolyNovo develops, manufactures and sells innovative medical devices based on its patented NovoSorb polymer technology. Our revolutionary polymer can be expressed in many forms such as a foam, film, or spray/dip solution, and can be used to elute drugs or antimicrobials and several other applications.

Our first commercially available product, NovoSorb BTM™, a regenerative dermal scaffold, has FDA (USA), TGA (AU), CE Mark (EU) and other registrations and is fuelling PolyNovo’s rapid growth globally, with a new Syntel™ Hernia device now nearing commercial manufacture.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will actively collaborate with the heads of marketing, manufacturing, QA, and regulatory affairs on new product development and the optimisation of manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a group of scientists and research assistants, and provide leadership in engaging new and existing talent;
• Participate in developing long term platform strategies to support the development of multiple products and a robust product pipeline;
• Lead the development of next generation technology to create new products across a range of clinical areas.
• Identify and collaborate with strategic external partners to develop new products aligned with our technology platform;
• Represent R&D in PolyNovo’s cross-functional teams and forums;
• Collaborate with the Project Manager, Product Development on project planning and lead/ participate in project team meetings;
• Direct the translation of research and development programs into GMP manufacturing processes and provide the scientific and technical expertise required to support technology transfer to manufacturing and other departments;
• Write/review/ approve process development documentation to support GMP manufacturing activities.
• Provide necessary technical support required for regulatory fillings

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

• PhD in life sciences or chemistry with a minimum 10 years’ medical device experience OR Masters degree with 15+ years’ medical device experience
• Significant management experience including at least five years managing an R&D Dept or R&D team(s) including the management of significant budgets
• Experience supporting the development of commercial manufacturing processes.
• Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in diverse, cross-functional teams
• Experience/ expertise developing Class III implantable devices would be an advantage
• Knowledge of polymer science would be an advantage.
