31.05.2004 11:01:00 GMT Straw-fired power project to be launched in Hebei
Shanghai. (Interfax-China) - An official named Meng Hua with the Hebei Provincial Construction Investment Corporation told Interfax that a straw-fired power project is to be launched in the city of Jinzhou in northern Hebei Province in the beginning of the next year.
According to the official, in addition to the corporation, the Beijing Longji Power Co., Ltd and the Hong Kong China Bioelectricity Group Co., Ltd will also team up to invest the project, which includes two 12,000 kW generating units, expected to cost RMB 250 mln (USD 30.20 mln).
"Feasibility studies into the project are still being drafted, and the construction of the project will not be launched until the provincial Development and Reform Commission approves it," the official said.
"Previously, it is estimated that the energy project could start construction within the year if everything proceeds smoothly," she added, "however, a delay in the equipment procurement procedure might further postpone the project, even if it was approved within months."
Straw-fired power projects, more environmental friendly compared to coal-fueled power facilities, are favored by the government, Meng revealed. The official disclosed that recently, an renovation project, which converted a coal-fired power plant into a straw-fired one, has been launched in the Pingyin County of coastal Shandong Province.
Additionally, the Beijing Longji Power Co., Ltd, has secured an agreement with the Shan County Government of Heze City, also in Shandong, regarding another straw-fired power project to be launched over the next two years.
