Dodds, you are spot on. But add:

"..and the bank then tries to sell your house to all their delinquent customers who have no cash. Woops, now the house is only worth $200k (because no one can afford to buy it.) Then your next door neighbour comes along, having just inherited his grandmother's estate, and offers $250k."

That's when the bank says "Oh, thank you Lord, what a great offer!! You MUST accept this great offer. It's the only one we have. If not, we will repossess and sell it for less, leaving you with nothing."
