We are witnessing something quite extraordinary and disturbing right now in American electoral history.

There is an historically high voter participation - 160 million American voters are reported as having participated. On its face, this sounds very good.

Unpacked, it may not be as worthy.

It seems many millions of unsolicited mail ballot-papers were carpet-bombed across the country prior to the election.

Sometimes multiples were sent to one voter eg Mr Fred Smith

Mr Frederick Smith

These votes are accepted in some states un-postmarked. These means their origin can be in doubt. These votes can be accepted in some states up to three days late, giving a window to send the ballot-papers "where needed".

The crucial states were clearly leading for Trump in the accountable, supervised voting and the already-received votes.

Suddenly, caches of mail-in votes have appeared at 3am favouring almost-only Biden.

These anomalies bear investigation and further analysis. At present, no American could have confidence in the mail-in ballot vote tally.

This lack of ability to have confidence will have a malignant knock-on effect in their democracy.

Legitimacy depends on integrity in process.
