Monkeybusiness, the mayor of Boulia is full of schnitzels if he thinks discharge from ady Annie would pollute Lake Eyre. What a load of cow dung.

Number one, its 1000km away. Number two, there's billions of litres of water in Lake Eyre. I'm assuming you've heard of "dilution"? Mayor Banjo McHickpants there obviously can't grasp the idea of a teaspoon into an ocean.

    Don't waste your time.

I worked at the Girilambone copper mine back in the day and they had a 1 in 100 year storm event. Topped over the dam wall, 1 megalitres of water at 100ppm Cu escaped into the paddock, six weeks later it was undetectable, end of story. Think about it: 1 million litres x 100 parts per million = 0.1 tonne of copper spread down a creek over several kilometres, etc.

These spills are, as the article quoted before says, transient and temporary. Unless you do it constantly.

What interests me is the liability here. I would chuckle quite heartily to see the receivers and CFE end up with a fat bloody lip from this if they did what every other bean counter has done when put in charge of a mine (ie; run it for the accountants, bust it, make a ham sandwich of the metallurgy and leave it flogged out and wrecked). Let them pay for the clean up.

For example, to give you an idea of how these receivers are parasites, the guys receiving the MON assets have engaged some mill cleanup crews to clean the mill and recover gold. For a start, the receivers turned the mill off while loaded, so they have 150t of dirt gummed up in the ball mill. This was tantamount to vandalism of property. Secondly, they make about 100 Oz a week from the clean up. 50% goes to the contractor and 50% to the receivers. Reputedly, there's been several thousand ounces recovered, and will this ever reach creditors? Hells no.

So, lets cross our fingers and hope that someone apart from us gets burnt from the spill at Lady Annie.
