Its worth doing some research into dredging operations ,as many are a fraction of the cost of normal mines in both operating and capital costs .Richards Bay minerals is a good story ,and Bluescope have one in NZ for Iron sands . ASX listed SAY have done some excellent costings for dunes in south America ,but have lots of governmental problems and a very risky investment ,so dont take that as a recommendation .For those that are blabbing off about underwater operations being inferior ,simply dont have a clue what they are talking about ,and show their true intellect and knowledge .These examples are for Iron sands ,but the same economics apply to any mineral in sand dredging .Tin is dredged in Bangka Island ,also at lower cost than their land operations and there are lots of others .
